Wishlist

My birthday is on approximately one hour and 2 minutes and in celebration of almost being 15 years old, I'm gonna make a blog post. I always make wish lists for my birthday and I love looking through the old ones to see what I wanted years ago. It's really amazing how much someone can change in the course of a year. My eighth grade self looks so much younger than I do now. I can't believe that I feel like such a different person from that girl who always wore ponytails. It was, after all, just a year ago. Birthdays generally aren't a big deal in my house, we do a party, cake, presents, but its never a huge thing. This year feels different though. I think its because for the first time in my life, I feel like I have a right to be celebrating this year. 14-15 is tough. There's the end of eighth grade, summer, first year of high school, its pretty draining. The transition is amazingly difficult. I feel like I have worked so hard in school this year, both academically and socially. Academically I have suffered through my first set of finals, and scraped by with all A's and B's. Socially, I feel like I'm starting to transition out of an awkward person who really has no idea how to start a conversation to someone who can have more fun with people, and not worry about every sentence that comes out of my mouth. so overall, its been a good year, and i've had more fun with theatre and fashion than I ever have before. So here are my 2011 birthday picks.

Sketching

Hey,
I was sick of trying to "explicate" poems for my god-awful english teacher a couple of days ago, so I took out 9 Heads by Nancy Riegelman (an AMAZING fashion illustration book that has the power to turn anyone into a good artist.) Next to me I had the February issue of W magazine, which is my favorite magazine out of all the subscriptions I have. The cover features Rooney Mara, the star of the Millennium Trilogy, or The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. She is bloody, has jet black hair, lots of eyeliner, and a bazillion tattoos under her leather jacket. She looks dark, gothic, and edgy, but not in the trendy way. She looks edgy in a way that makes you think she's been like this forever, that somehow she was born with piercings on her face and tattoos on her back. Influenced by the cover photo, I began to sketch my version of her look and fantasize about wearing it. So this is what I came up with. I haven't sketched since school started, but i'm trying to get back into it.
